Colorado Springs—Have Fun in the Springs

Colorado Springs is located in El Paso County, Colorado. Many tourists visiting the state will take a quick excursion to Colorado Springs, from Denver or Boulder. What is the personality of “The Springs?” This area is east of center of the state and stands at 6,035 feet, which is about one mile above sea level. The estimated population of the city is at 414,358. Besides Denver, it is the most populous city in the state. It does have one up on Denver: Colorado Springs covers 186.1 square miles, making it the largest city in the state in terms of area.

What can you do in Colorado Springs? First, understand of all Colorado’s beauty, “The Springs” boasts some of the most scenic and marvelous sites. The city continues to grow, even though its population is already huge. The mood of the city is distinctly small “western” living. There are many churches in the city, along with some very comfy lodging facilities and hospitable restaurants.

The top attractions in Colorado Springs include historical sites, nature sites and a few gambling establishments. The Colorado Pioneers Museum, held in a former courthouse, features historical exhibits and traveling exhibits throughout the season. The Garden of the Gods is a massive rock garden with red sandstone formations. These formations took literally millions of years to create. There are several hiking trails to explore within the garden.

The United States Olympic Complex is a state-of-the-art fitness center. Within this center are five gymnasiums, a 14-court sports center, an indoor shooting center (with pistols and rifles) and a very large aquatics center. There are many other museums and nature sites that will be of interest to tourists. If you are heading to Colorado this season, make a trip to Colorado Springs, as it is an important part of the state’s ambiance!
