12:00 PMPaul Gordon, professor of humanities, will examine the frequent appearance of “criminal heroes” in literature and film, beginning with The Bible (Eve, Cain) and Greek literature (Prometheus, Oedipus, Antigone) and continuing with more modern literary works (Macbeth, The Stranger, The Executioner’s Song) and films (A History of Violence, Taxi Driver, Aguirre, The Usual Suspects) in order to understand the surprising popularity and our particular fascination with these repugnant figures.
